These two townhouses in Kew are a step towards sustainable design. They
are designed to fit with the neighbourhood character and historic overlay,
and maximise the available building volume of the site, yet maintain amenity
both within and without the block. Each townhouse consists of four bedrooms,
two living spaces, and two car spaces.
The site was deliberately chosen to be within 500 m of the Kew village
where all facilities are to be found. Public transport is outside the
door. Each house has a solar hot water system, a 1kWp photovoltaic system,
a 10,000 litre rainwater tank, and one townhouse has a greywater recycling
system.
The building fabric is very well insulated, and recycled timber is used
for window and door frames. The living spaces face north to produce a
delightful internal environment.
